Crowning is a cap that is placed on a root-treated tooth to protect it from excessive biting forces that may lead to fractures. When teeth are root treated, they are not as robust as natural teeth. Natural teeth move slightly to adjust to the pressure put on them, but root-treated teeth do not move, and therefore they can easily break under pressure.
